Season 11's format was similar to Season 10, but now gave the host a chance to press the Golden Buzzer. In the finals, Piff, missed out on the Top 5, while The CraigLewis Band and Drew finished in 5th and 2nd place respectively. Arielle, Siro-A, and Irving were all eliminated in the Semifinals. Piers Morgan was the last guest judge, and he used his Golden Buzzer, for dance group, Siro-A.įreckled Sky was the only Golden Buzzer act this season eliminated in the Quarterfinals. Marlon Wayans was next, pressing his for ventriloquist Paul Zerdin. Michael Bublé was the second, using his Golden Buzzer on vocal duo, The CraigLewis Band. Neil Patrick Harris was the first to use his, pressing it for comedy magician, Piff the Magic Dragon. The guest judges for the Judge Cuts were also allowed to use the Golden Buzzer. Mel used hers for singer, Sharon Irving, and Heidi gave the buzzer to young Opera singer, Arielle Baril. Howie was first shown pressing it for Drew Lynch, a comedian with a speech impediment, Howard used his for dance duo, Freckled Sky. In Season 10, the golden buzzer format was changed so that acts who receive the buzzer, now automatically skip the Judge Cuts, and go straight to the live shows. The act given Mel B's Golden Buzzer this season, is unknown, as it was never televised. Neither of The Birthday Boys' performances were televised. Heidi Klum used her golden buzzer for a Cyr wheel acrobatic duo called "The Birthday Boys," featuring Brad Henderson, who performed the act solo in the next round for Judgement Week. Howard Stern used his on comedy, karate demonstration duo, Dustin's Dojo, and Howie Mandel used his on comedy rap duo, Emmanuel & Phillip Hudson. Unlike how it's currently used, the Golden Buzzer's original purpose was to send an act right to judgement week, regardless of what the other judge's votes were. “Really, it means a lot.”Īfterwards, Cowell noted that Bayoh’s performance “defines what a golden buzzer is all about.Season 9 featured the debut of the golden buzzers. “Thank you, thank you, thank you for coming on this show,” Cowell said. “And it’s very simple, you sang like an angel.” “I was in tears because you really touched me,” Tonioli said. Bayoh stuffed a few pieces into his pants pocket. The two grabbed a few fistfuls of the golden confetti before Cowell made his way back to his seat. One of the best voices I think I’ve ever heard for someone your age. “Come here,” he said as he embraced Bayoh. Cowell quickly joined him on stage to celebrate the teenager’s performance. Gold confetti rained down on Bayoh, so much that he even made snow angels on the floor. With that, he pressed the show’s coveted “Golden Buzzer,” reserved for talent so extraordinary they get sent straight to the finals. “If there’s any one word I could use to describe that. Cowell is even seen winking at the teenager, who was beaming on the stage soaking the moment in. When Bayoh finished belting out the song, he earned a standing ovation from all four judges and the audience. (If you haven’t watched "America’s Got Talent" or "Britain’s Got Talent," Cowell is notoriously hard to impress). Throughout the performance, the camera showed Cowell smiling and tearing up. The audience, equally entranced, erupted in applause, including Bayoh’s mom and sister who were seated among the crowd. The clip also revealed fellow judge Bruno Tonioli watching the singer with wide open eyes. Within seconds of the choir singer’s performance, it’s clear Bayoh captivated Cowell’s attention.
